New in Chess Yearbook 82 continues the tradition of excellence established by the Dutch company more than twenty years ago. Per the Yearbook format first up in #82 is the Forum where readers and contributors discuss articles from previous volumes. Next comes Sosonko's Corner where the Russo-Dutch GM pays tribute to the late David Bronstein.
The bulk of the book is devoted to 21 theoretical articles that run the gamut from 1.e4, to 1.d4 to 1.c4. Some are on highly theoretical lines like 17.a4 in the Open Ruy Lopez (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.0-0 Nxe4 6.d4 b5 7.Bb3 d5 8.dxe5 Be6 9.c3 Be7 10.Nbd2 0-0 11.Bc2 f5 12.Nb3 Qd7 13.Nbd4 Nxd4 14.Nxd4 c5 15.Nxe6 Qxe6 16.f3 Ng5). Others are intended for immediate use by newcomers like 5...Be7 in the Ruy Lopez Exchange Variation (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Bxc6 dxc6 5.0-0) or 4...0-0 in the 4.f3 Nimzo-Indian. The latter comes to the conclusion that 5.e4 is probably not best, that transposing into the Samisch with 5.a3 is the right choice leading to the variation 5...Bxc3+ 6.bxc3 Ne8 or 6...Nh5. Last but not least are 5 pages of book reviews by English GM Glenn Flear.
All these volumes (at the time of writing up to 84) are Highly Recommended
