John
Watson--a strong international master who has
over 21 books to his credit--made his mark as
one of the world's elite chess writers with his
ground breaking four-volume work on the English
Opening, followed by his incredibly popular Play
the French. His critically acclaimed Secrets
of Modern Chess Strategy won the BCF Book
of the Year award 1999.
John is recognized as one of the best chess trainers
in the United States (his student, Tal Shaked,
won the 1997 World Junior Championship). However,
his interests go far beyond chess: educated at
Harvard and UCSD and possessing a BS in electrical
engineering, John (who resides in San Diego, California)
has an encyclopedic knowledge of literature and
socio-economic issues.
