Randy
Bauer is a National Master currently residing
in Urbandale, Iowa, USA. Many years ago, as one
of the Midwest’s top scholastic players,
Randy won both the Minnesota junior high and
senior high championship twice, was Minnesota
state junior champion and ranked among the top
players in the country in his age group.
Randy first earned the national master title in 1989 and is currently rated 2304
by the United States Chess Federation. He has won over twenty Grand Prix tournaments
throughout the Midwest as well as the championship of the State of Iowa.
Randy has also been active in chess writing and publication. He has served as
Editor of the Iowa State Chess Association’s quarterly newsletter and has
contributed to other publications, including CHESS LIFE magazine. His Internet
chess writing has been republished in chess periodicals throughout the world
and was featured in Sarah Hurst’s book, CHESS ON THE WEB. He has been nominated
for multiple awards by the Chess Journalists of America.
When there are bills to be paid, Randy toils as budget director for the State
of Iowa. He and his wife Debbie share a home with their daughters, Jenna and
Kiera.
