picking books that are right for you

Dear Reader:

Everyone wants a solid opening repertoire that suits their styles and also caters to the amount of study time they have available. And who doesn’t want to understand positional chess, sharpen their tactics, or finally learn a thing or two about endgames?

Though the JEREMYSILMAN.COM CHESS SHOP has an enormous amount of books and equipment to choose from, it’s always hard to pick the gold from the swill. One way to see what the experts think about a certain book(s) is to visit our huge BOOK REVIEW ARCHIVE.

The following lists give site fans another means of making an educated choice. These lists show some of my personal favorites and give direct links to the particular book you’re looking at in the Chess Shop. Please keep in mind that I ONLY list books that I’m very familiar with. Therefore, this doesn’t mean that the books I’ve ignored (or overlooked!) are necessarily bad – just that the books listed ARE very, very good.

If – even after looking over the lists, the inventory in the shop, and the reviews in the review archive – you are not sure what is best for you, don’t hesitate to ask me for a personal recommendation. You can contact me HERE.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Silman
