Jeremy Silman Bio

Jeremy Silman is an International Master of chess and a world-class teacher, lecturer, writer, and player who has won the American Open, the National Open, and the U.S. Open.

Considered by many to be the game’s preeminent instructive writer, he is the author of thirty-nine chess books (many of which have been translated into French, German, and Italian), including the 4th edition of How to Reassess Your Chess, Silman’s Complete Endgame Course, The Amateur’s Mind, The Complete Book of Chess Strategy, and The Reassess Your Chess Workbook.

Other writings include hundreds of articles for a variety of chess magazines and websites, a screenplay that was optioned by LMK Productions, Inc., and Zen and the Art of Casino Gaming (co-authored with Miron Stabinsky).

Jeremy helped create the chess scene in the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and he served as chess consultant on TV shows such as Monk, Criminal Minds (twice), Malcolm in the Middle, and HBO’s Arliss.

His chess website (www.jeremysilman.com) answers the chess fan’s eternal lament: “What chess books are good and what are bad? What books will suit me, and which ones aren’t my cup of tea?” The site’s reviews take an honest look at many of the significant books from the past, and bring much needed guidance to the avalanche of new books coming out every month.

Mr. Silman’s other site, silmansasianmoviereviews.com, is designed to bring the wonder of Asian film to the masses. These films are Mr. Silman’s passion, and he hopes it will be yours too.
